cmdp_logo_small.png Helping our clients perform at their best in the Ring is one aspect of our business.  Helping our clients perform at their best in their life and career is the other!

The CM® Defense Program, changing the way the martial arts is coached, viewed & experienced!

The CMD Coaches a functional self-defense based program

Unfortunately if we like it or not, there are situations that require many people to defend themselves these days. Because of this fact we endeavor to make the CMD® Program a program that is functionally driven in self-defense application to allow our clients to adequately defend themselves if need be. Beyond this though we endeavor to coach our clients the soft approach of avoidance, awareness and communication to deter the likelihood of an attack upon themselves or their family.

Most importantly we want our program, the CMD® to be for the everyday guy and woman!

Develop GameCM® Phase 1- CM® Phase one is recognizable by the CM® hand defensive actions that made it famous and the hunchback stance. The idea is to coach a person to feel comfortable in a good solid defensive structure. Much of the training happens here on the periphery or the rim-shot range as we like to call it, where an opponent has to commit by stepping forward to land a punch (Or kick). Included in CM® Phase 1 training program, clients are taught all the fundamental boxing strikes, knees and kicks (And there respective defense) that are required to build a formidable martial arts game. Clients are also taught necktie positions, close quarter combat basics like the 3-point cover for self-defense and defense against common stand-up submission holds like a guillotine. We normally coach all of this in four months.

CM® Phase 2 & CM® Phase 3- CM® Phase 2 is the counterpunching stage of our program. Here a client learns how to close the gap and punch off their opponent’s incoming strikes. Evasive tactics like the modified duck, slipping ad weaving are taught here too. Clients are then taught CM® Phase 3, which exposes them to our straightjacket clinch boxing & elbow strike program (Drives, Pop & Drives, crossed swords and a whole lot more is taught). This is also where they learn how to effectively strike from the clinch. It is also at this stage that we coach basic, fundamental takedowns and how to sprawl and recover to a stand-up position. This program takes approximately eight months to complete which is split into two, four-month sections.

CM® Phase 4- CM® Phase 4 is recognizable by disruptive techniques mostly used in sparring. This really gives the CMD® Program a unique flavor in its boxing approach, where shoves, pushes and forward shields are used to disrupt the opponent’s hand placement and create openings. Although we would have focused on developing a clients or athletes mental game throughout our program to this stage, this is where we really place a lot of emphasis on it. This program lasts for about six months.

CM® Phase 5- CM® Phase 5 is recognizable as our attribute based boxing process. Now that we know our clients and athletes have developed focus and have developed a grounded game with a solid foundation to fall back on- we now really allow them to explore all angles and facets of the striking game. In this process they are taught the ice-pick sparring game, shoulder rolls and a lot of time is spent on developing a person who can fight against any style of opponent. This program runs for six months and then becomes an ongoing process of game refinement.

cm_contemplation.jpgThe CMD coaches life-skills

Martial Arts are a wonderful vehicle for positive, healthy change in people’s lives- helping them move out of negative spaces and into positive ones. Of course this only happens if martial arts are coached correctly and with philosophical implications.

Through coaching the CMD® Program we strive to find the life lessons in everything we do in the ring, on the mat and in the gym. If what we are coaching and practicing does not help us perform better in our lives and career outside the gym then we don’t want to coach it. Developing focus, patience, mindfulness, centeredness, discipline and a healthy attitude towards obstacles are only a few of the lessons the CMD® Program actively engages in creating.

Ultimately sparring and training in the CMDP® is not about dominating the person in front of you, but a vehicle for learning to control fear, cope with frustration, and developing self control!

The CMDP strives for Ecological and Social Consciousness

Beyond using the martial arts for self-defense and developing a healthy personal philosophy- we also want our practice to be mindful of how our actions and our martial art practice affects the ecology around us, and the greater society as a whole. Therefore through the CMD® Program we seek out an active roll in our neighborhood, our society and the planet as a whole. We realize that the quality of our consciousness is directly linked to the quality of our relationships with the people in our gym, our neighborhood and the ground we stand on.
